Translation
I provide translation into my native English (UK or US) from my second mother tongue German.
Having grown up in Austria to a Swiss father, I’m especially interested in translating contemporary fiction by Austrian and Swiss writers.
Austrian Cultural Forum (ACF) Translation Prize 2026 — Winner
In September 2026, I was honoured to win the Category B prize for best translation by an aspiring translator, based on the chosen excerpt of Sophie Reyer’s Death at the Salzburg Festival (Tod Bei den Salzburger Festspielen).
The prize ceremony took place at the ACF on 29 November, 2026, with authour Sophie Reyer, judges Jamie Bulloch, Shaun Whiteside and Ella Harold, category A prizewinner Sarah Farmer, and runner ups Sharon Howe and Sarah Escritt in attendance.
British Centre for Literary Translation (BCLT) Summer School, July 2026
In July 2026, I was awarded a fully-funded Pro Helvetia scholarship to attend the five-day BCLT Summer School German Workshop, led by writer and translator
Jen Calleja. Over the course of the five days, I was fortunate enough to work with talented emerging and established translators on a chapter of Dana Grigorcea’s
new book Dancing Woman, Blue Rooster (Tanzende Frau, blauer Hahn), with feedback from the authour herself.
Please do get in touch at chiarahaefliger@icloud.com, if you are interested in working with me or for a translation sample.
